How it started
1996
A visit to Boston, MA sparked the idea in Steve and Jo Stewart, of owning their own craft brewery one day. Fast forward to 2004 after years perfecting home brews the first official Stewart Brewing beers were launched.
The First Brewery
1998
The first brew kit was set up in Steve and Jo's dining room and later moved to a coal shed. This was where our first recipes were developed.
Edinburgh Move
2002
A premises secured, tanks and equipment purchased (mostly from Irn Bru and John Smiths), the journey began.
Steve began the exciting task of transforming vessels, originally not intended for brewing beer, into our inaugural production brew kit.
The Big Launch
2004
The first range of cask beers was launched. Six local pubs agreed to stock our beer. We had finally hit the Edinburgh pub scene as Edinburgh's only independent brewery.
New Brewhouse
2013
We opened the doors on our first custom built brewery, just around the corner from our original location.
It housed a custom built 50HL brewhouse, consisting of a mash conversion vessel, lauter tun and combined wort kettle/whirlpool. We soon added 2 'Hop Rockets' to infuse hops into our beers. We then added a centrifuge to remove solids from our beers without filtration.
The Expansion
2020
We added our first canning line, built a new warehouse, began work on our new Beer & Pizza Kitchen and started our Brewery Shop refurbishment plans.
The present
Working from our custom built brewery space in Loanhead we have a team of around 50 helping to create a vast range or beers and deliver our customer experiences.
Using the finest ingredients
Our brewers work tirelessly to turn the best quality ingredients into great beer.
They brew a range from everyday staples to boundary pushing beers using the latest ingredients from our suppliers.
The Future
The future is exciting and the possibilities endless. Purpose, community, environment really matter too. We strive to do our bit to support local events and charities and reduce our footprint on the environment.
Midlothian Business Green Pledge
Stewart Brewing is proud to join the Midlothian Business Green Pledge, a scheme that helps businesses improve their environmental performance. By signing up, we commit to making our brewery greener and more eco-friendly, with the support of expert advisers. We believe that this is not only good for the planet, but also for our customers, who can enjoy our beers knowing that we care about our impact. Cheers to a greener future!
Award Winning
Over the years we have won a fair few award. We are extremely proud to receive every one of them. We're practically running out of space for all the awards we've scooped up over the years. Not that we're complaining!
